Types of GI Bill庐 Benefits

The Post 9/11 GI Bill庐 provides educational benefits to active duty members and their dependents if they served 90 or more days after September 10th, 2001. You can receive up to 36 months of benefits including:聽

  • Tuition and Fees: The VA will cover up to the GI Bill庐 cap per academic year. Mandatory fees can be reported to the VA as long as they are applied to聽补濒濒听students at AU. Common fees that are not covered by VA Education benefits are the Metro Pass fee because this is charged to full-time students only. Specific course fees are also not eligible to have VA Education benefits processed if the fee pays for travel, housing or meal costs for a class. A common fee not covered by VA Education benefits are for immersion courses through our KOGOD graduate online program.聽
  • Students that are 100% eligible for the CH. 33 Post 9/11 GI bill庐 and not currently on active duty or the spouse of an active duty servicemember are encouraged to apply to the Yellow Ribbon Program. This funding is Paid directly to 猫咪社区app University towards tuition and fees.
  • Monthly Housing Allowance(BAH): If you are attending AU at a rate above half-time and not active duty or spouse of an active duty servicemember you will receive a monthly housing allowance based on the rate for an E-5 with dependents. Your monthly housing allowance is based on the location you attend classes. If you are attending school less than full-time or online, your housing allowance will be prorated. Attending half-time or less you are not eligible for a housing allowance. BAH is paid directly to the student from the VA.
  • Books and Supplies: The VA will pay up to $1,000 for books and supplies per academic year. Paid separate from your BAH and directly deposited into your bank account.

You can qualify for Chapter 35 benefits if you are the child or spouse of a Veteran who died while on active duty as a result of a service-connected disability or is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability. If you do not meet the above criteria, you may still qualify for VA educational benefits if the Veteran or service member transferred some or all of their Post-9/11 GI bill entitlement to you while on active duty.

An educational benefit that provides up to 36 months of full-time payments to eligible veterans and service members who have served at least 2 years of active duty. The MGIB pays the student per month and the student is responsible for paying the remaining tuition, fees, housing, and books independently. This monthly benefit is paid directly to you, and not to the school.

Tuition assistance payments are earned through time in service and are sent directly from each branch of service to the school. Tuition assistance at AU is processed by our Third-party billing team.

Students who are eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 (Chapter 33) or Montgomery GI Bill庐-Active Duty (Chapter 30) or Montgomery GI Bill庐-Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)聽may be eligible to use these VA Education Benefits along with Tuition Assistance. If using Chapter 30 and Tuition Assistance at the same time, this is called 鈥淭op-Up鈥

This employment programs helps eligible veterans receive the training they need to pursue employment. A plan of study is approved by a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who sends a contract to the school. Tuition, fees and book expenses are directly paid by the VA to the school for approved coursework.

The MGIB-SR program provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard or Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components. The VA makes the payments directly to you, and not to the school.
