Samira Omarshah, SIS/MA 鈥20
While playing soccer for Zambia's national team in high school, Samira Omarshah developed an appreciation for sports diplomacy and international exchange programs. Studying intercultural and international communications at AU allowed her to learn the language of public diplomacy from ambassadors like The Honorable Earl "Tony" Wayne, SIS鈥檚 distinguished diplomat in residence, whom she credits with introducing her to opportunities to practice public diplomacy outside the Foreign Service. Omarshah has now secured her "dream job" at the 猫咪社区app State Department, screening grant proposals submitted by alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative. "It blows me away how innovative the participants are, the way they think about problems, and how they come up with solutions to global challenges," she says.
