Mourning the loss听of Thulani Maseko

On January 21, 2023, Thulani Maseko, a human rights lawyer from Eswatini, was killed in his home. Thulani was听a Hubert Humphrey Fellow from 2010-2011 and graduated with an LL.M. in International Legal Studies in 2011. Read Professor Padideh Ala'i's statement here.

On February 9, 2023, AUWCL hosted a memorial event for Thulani Maseko and a discussion on the Future of Democracy in Swaziland/Eswatini. The link to the video of the memorial can be found听听and also on YouTube on this.听听

Institute of International Education Humphrey Alumni Resources

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is a private not-for-profit agency that administers the Fellowship Program in conjunction with the Department of State. The IIE has developed several alumni resources specific for Humphrey Fellows to help encourage professional growth and global exchange.

  • To connect with Humphrey Fellows from across the world and to share your own accomplishments, visit the e.
  • Fellows can now join the on LinkedIn! LinkedIn is a great resource for professional networking between Fellows, program alumni and interested participants. It鈥檚 a platform to share professional development experiences and resources with one another. The IIE also created 10 subgroups based on the program鈥檚 professional areas. Some fields of study are combined in order to inspire networking and interaction between Fellows with similar professional interests. Please join the subgroup that best fits your needs.
  • The IIE also awards deserving Fellows with grants to allow Fellows to pursue projects that use the knowledge and skills they acquired during their Humphrey Fellowship year, and also awards grants to provide funding for alumni to attend a conference, workshop or other professional activity that continues to draw upon the Humphrey experience by strengthening an alumni professional development.

The Department of State鈥檚 Humphrey Fellowship Program Alumni Network

The Humphrey Fellowship Program is supported by the U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This Bureau has developed an online alumni network for each of its exchange programs. Humphrey Fellows may specifically use the Humphrey Alumni Network to connect with alumni from various host universities.

International Legal Studies Program Alumni

Since its inception in 1982, over 3,000 attorneys from around the world have graduated from the International Legal Studies Program (ILSP). Over the years, ILSP alumni have formed an international network of legal practitioners. Graduates have pursued careers in prominent law firms and international organizations. Many have established their own firms and non-governmental organizations or are employed as government officials, judges and legal educators in their home countries and elsewhere in the world.
