The Hubert H.听Humphrey听Fellowship Program is a Fulbright Exchange activity sponsored by the U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State.
Fellowships are granted competitively to professional candidates around the world who show a commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. 猫咪社区app University (AU) has served as a host institution for the听Humphrey听Program since 1980. In 2002, AU repositioned the Fellowship鈥檚 focus from economics to human rights and law, and the Fellowship Program moved to AUWCL. AUWCL is the only law school in the country hosting the program.
The 猫咪社区app University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) is thrilled to welcome the 2024-2025 cohort of Humphrey Fellows, from nine countries across the globe鈥擝razil, Cameroon, China, Georgia, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Serbia, and Slovakia鈥攖hese exceptional individuals have embarked on an exciting journey of professional development and cultural exchange.
The first week was all about getting acquainted with their new surroundings. With the support of our dedicated program staff, the Fellows navigated the practicalities of life in the U.S., from opening bank accounts and setting up phone lines to finding their way around their new homes. Meet Humphrey Fellow听Mehluli Malisa Batakathi from Zambia.
A U.S. senator from Minnesota for 27 years and vice president of the United States from 1965-1969, Hubert H. Humphrey was a lifelong advocate of programs fostering human rights and international understanding. These fellowships were established to honor his memory and to continue his ideals.
